Lockdown day 59

Kitchen was hijacked again today, now Lucy’s turn to cook something unaided. She made a beautiful choc chip banana bread. 

Kids have turned the playroom into a casino!! Using Monopoly money and you can play blackjack (another COVID taught game), beer pong and they have guess the song, they hit shuffle a play list and if it lands on your song you get your money back 🤣🤣🤣 and karaoke! So funny! I poured all my money into karaoke! 

After that they set up a fancy restaurant for them selves in the playroom, complete with dance music playing!

Lockdown day 58

Today marked my last day of working from home!!! 6 weeks supporting kids from home, who would have thought!!!

We finished up and went for a walk/ride to the cafe, hopefully we can keep this up after school and work next week. 

While we were walking Harry decided he wanted to make gnocchi for dinner. I was a little hesitant as I’ve never made it before, but Harry was pretty confident that he could make it by him self. After we clarified the ratio of ingredients with Andrew, he set to work, unaided by me, and blew me away by making gnocchi! He even remembered the ice bath (which I didn’t know!) AND it was delicious!! So bloody proud of him, his car and meticulous actions were beyond impressive. Love this boy 💙

Lockdown day 57

The only photo from today, although it does represent lockdown, I have become obsessed with making cauliflower yummy! After gagging on it my whole life, I now can’t get enough! 

School and work done by 12.30. Holly went for a walk with Isabella and Fiona.

Harry, Luce and I went for a bike ride.

Lockdown day 56

Today marks 8 weeks of being home. We have 3 more weeks until we are all back at work and school.

Today was the first day in a while that we haven’t been for a walk. We did duck down to Knox to grab a few things though, although 3 of the 5 shops we were there for were still closed. 

Mr Smith, Harry’s teacher had gone over and above, he has been calling Harry every morning at about 9.30 to give him a pep talk for the day! Seriously lucky to have great teachers!

What did COVID-19 look like?

Prime Minister Scott Morrison started lockdown on the evening of 22nd of March 2020 with non essential services including pubs, clubs and restaurants closed.

Later that week, states shut their borders to non essential travellers.

By the end of March severe restrictions were in place, including a law banning people from being outside their homes except for four essential reasons (work, groceries, exercise and medical reasons).

The Queen addressed the nation at 8pm on 5th April.

6th April, beaches around Australia have started to close.

Petrol prices dropped to around 89 cents per litre (from $1.50p/l).

Schools in NSW and VIC closed as education departments implement new procedures to deal with the spread of coronavirus.  Remote learning is in place.

Self distancing measures required.

Tape on the floors at grocery stores and others to help distance shoppers from each other.

Limited shopping hours therefore lineups out side shop doors.

Non essential stores and businesses mandated closed.

People who can work from home must work from home.

Park, trails entire cities closed or restricted to local

Entire sports seasons cancelled

Tokyo olympics postponed to 2021

Concerts, tours, festivals cancelled

Wedding and funerals limited to less than 10 attendants

Churches closed

No gatherings of 50 or more, then 20, then 10, then Don't socialise with anyone outside of your home.

Shortage of masks, gowns for frontline workers and ventilators for critically ill in many parts of the world.

Refrigerated trucks for the dead outside hospitalise the USA, Italy, Spain,China and more.

Panic buying sets in, we have limits on toilet paper, staple food and hand sanitiser.

All schools in Australia are now working remotely from home. All kids in Victoria will be able to say they were homeschooled for 2.5 months!

We don't see anyone (family or friends) for 2 months.

On the upside, life slows down and we spend more quality time together as a family.

Barely anyone on the roads, businesses close down and massive job loss

Shopping centers are like ghost towns.

So far over 300,000 deaths globally and over 4.5 million cases of COVID-19

Australia has been lucky, with only 7000 cases so far and 100 deaths. We are believe it or not the "Lucky country".

This week restrictions have slowly started lifting.

I have taken time out of working from home and homeschooling today to document this because one day my great grandkids may read this and be able to identify with a small piece of history from their Great Granny Em!

Lockdown day 55

Quiet day today after a big night. A big bike ride/walk altogether with Andrew, love Sunday’s when we can all be out together.  Another cracking day blue skies and crisp air.

I managed to clean the ovens and Andrew cleaned up the leaves ... I would call that an achievement today!

Lockdown day 54

Although “lockdown” isn’t technically the right term now, we are still all encouraged to stay home as much as possible. We are now allowed family to visit 5 at a time,  the Froopers came over for lunch yesterday. Such a fun day and didn’t finish up until about 10 last night!!! Sooooo good to see them!

Cafes and restaurants will slowly open with lots of restrictions in a couple of weeks. I go back to work next Monday. The kids don’t go back until the 9th of June however Harry and Luce will have to go back as I will be classed as an essential worker. 

One week of homeschooling left. Apart from the homeschooling I have surprisingly  loved being at how and living the slower life. Yes I have complained about not seeing people but overall it’s been grounding and nice. 

Lockdown day 53

A freezing 1 degree start to the day, but a stunning sky of blue. A busy morning with work and school. Holly had a maths test so we left her in peace and went for a walk/ride. Holly took over the kitchen tonight wand while o lay in bed and read a book she made this beautiful dinner! Veal schnitzel, baked potato’s and corn. Stella job! More than happy for her to take over the kitchen any day!

Lockdown day 52

Exciting day today, we finished school and went to Aunty Gabes!!! 4 hours of fun catch up before they come over for the day on Saturday!!!

Lockdown day 51

Harry made an apple pie while I was working and wrote an instructional writing piece on how to cook an apple pie.  Holly found some old pics of our house and we went for a big walk again. Oh and no Corona for Andrew!!

Lockdown day 50

Holy cooked dinner tonight. Harry and Lucy played nicely all day after finishing school by 12. I rested most of the day with a possible sinus infection.

Lockdown day 49

A good day learning from home! Harry and Luce did some cooking by themselves- jelly and cupcakes. A big bike ride, Lucy and I mastered riding her bike together while walking the dog.
